Penguins Against Oppression

So now that my headline has grabbed your attention, I’m going to tell you about something even more exciting than the small, flightless birds you were thinking of.
Penguin Modern Classics is releasing a range of books this August that showcase the diverse range of authors who lived through the Soviet Union and Nazism (authors from Hungary, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Austria etc.), suffering oppression both literary and physical. Their works weren’t widely published in English, but fiction, short stories and non-fiction are now being re-released with the most incredible jackets.
I love that these authors are being recognized, because as we all know, a suffering author is a good author – they have a lot more to teach us about the human condition.

Here are just a few that will be hitting the shelves in August.

($24.95 each)
